Paulo Fonseca will be officially unveiled as the new head coach on Monday, and in the meantime the directors are working on bringing him an ideal centre-back for his style.
According to what is being reported by Calciomercato.com, Geoffrey Moncada and the rest of the management are working on targets to fine tune the squad available to Fonseca, and Diogo Leite of Union Berlin is among them.
Leite was born on 23 January 1999 in Portugal – more precisely in the city of Porto – and he played for Leixões SC and Padroense FC as a child before joining FC Porto.
There, he became one of the pillars of the youth teams of the team that won the UEFA Youth League in 2019 along with Diogo Costa, Fabio Silva and Vitinha.
He made his senior debut that season and played 90 minutes in the final of the Supertaça (the Portuguese Super Cup) at a high level, which then saw Union Berlin come forward and invest €8m to sign him.
It is in Germany where he became one of the starters in a side that achieved their first ever Champions League qualification. Now, the next step for Leite might be Milan, who are looking for a left-footed central defender who is good in the air.
Among the qualities that stand out are his excellent timing of tackles and his anticipation to get to the ball first. He is a ‘complete and modern’ centre-back, also helped by precision in passing (89% accuracy last season). The Rossoneri are keen, and he could be ‘perfect’ for Fonseca.
