Christmas is here and the AC Milan fans are eagerly awaiting a couple of signings on the mercato, even if these ‘presents’ will not arrive today. According to a report, there are two positions the Rossoneri want to reinforce.
It has been a tough first half of the season, currently sitting in eighth place, and it’s clear that Milan need something in January to lift their spirits. Of course, perhaps even more so than fixing a mentality, the Rossoneri need reinforcements to compete with their rivals.
According to Calciomercato.com, Milan fans might find two (belated) presents underneath the Christmas tree shortly. In addition to a Sandro Tonali-esque midfielder – as Newcastle are unwilling to sell him now – a deputy for Theo Hernandez is also needed.
It has been clear for quite some time that a Tonali-esque profile has been missing from the Milan midfield. So much so that the former Rossoneri man himself has been linked with a return, but he’s doing very well at Newcastle and the latter have no intention of selling him.
As such, Geoffrey Moncada and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are focusing on alternatives, and these are all profiles that can act as a shield in front of defence but also participate in attack. The hottest names are Reda Belahyane (Verona), Morten Frendrup (Genoa) and Carney Chukwuemeka (Chelsea), as the report continues.
Milan have needed a Theo deputy for several years now and the Frenchman’s form at the start of the season has just emphasised this. Alex Jimenez has been doing a good job in the last few games but ideally, he would play on the right instead – which is his favourite position.
The main targets for this position are Fabiano Parisi, who is leaving Fiorentina, and Empoli’s Giuseppe Pezzella. Parisi’s teammate Cristiano Biraghi is also an option but he’s not preferred given his age (32 years old), even if he has a lot of qualities.
