Every day a new name seems to take prominence in AC Milan’s search for a new centre-back and now Japhet Tanganga is the man in question.

Although Fikayo Tomori’s injury seems less serious than expected and Milan have also got Alessio Romagnoli back, Calciomercato.com reports that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are still looking to bring in a defender given the emergency the department was in and when considering Simon Kjaer will be out for the remainder of the season.

Tanganga is not a new name and is in fact a profile that the Milan management and scouting area have followed for some time, and while there was an initial €25m demand from Spurs, they have changed their stance because they know the 22-year-old will have limited opportunities to show his capabilities and develop.

Tanganga gets the seal of approval from Stefano Pioli too because he is physically strong, fast, suitable for Pioli’s game and inexpensive since he would be a loan. Bremer and Sven Botman remain the two top targets but it seems they cannot arrive in January, so Tanganga may be the right opportunity for six months of cover.
