After four and a half years the paths of AC Milan and Stefano Pioli will separate, because tomorrow night’s game against Salernitana will be his last in charge.

According to Calciomercato.com, the parties have decided by mutual agreement to end the relationship at the end of the season and Milan are now likely to hire Paulo Fonseca as his replacement on a three-year deal worth €3m net per season.

Indeed tomorrow’s game against Salernitana will give the chance for Pioli to say farewell to the Milan fans and vice versa, while waiting for a new project to take over. It seems as though he might have no shortage of interest.

Aurelio De Laurentiis’ Napoli are thinking about Pioli as a potential replacement for Calzona and he is the favourite in a list which also includes Gian Piero Gasperini, Vincenzo Italiano and Antonio Conte.

Some foreign options could also open up for Stefano Pioli, with Fenerbahçe waiting for developments on the coach’s future , a challenge outside Italy that he could seriously consider if concrete proposals were to come forward.

In the background Bologna will lose Thiago Motta: Pioli knows the Rossoblù environment where he coached from October 2011 to January 2014, but the idea of a return does not warm the club who would like to focus on Vincenzo Italiano.
