AC Milan defender Matteo Gabbia is struggling to get playing time and he continues to be linked with a move away, with Sampdoria reportedly interested.

There were various rumours during the summer transfer window suggesting that Gabbia could be sent out on loan for the 2022-23 season given his position in the hierarchies, but his exit did not happen even after Malick Thiaw was signed from Schalke 04, which means he is the fourth or fifth pick out of the five centre-backs in the squad.

According to a report from Calciomercato.com, Sampdoria were interested in signing Gabbia on loan over the summer and they have clearly been keeping an eye on his lack of playing time as their interest in bringing him in persists.

They are expected to make a fresh attempt to sign the 22-year-old in January when the winter mercato opens, and with Fikayo Tomori, Pierre Kalulu, Simon Kjaer and Thiaw ahead of Gabbia, the Rossoneri may decide to change their stance.
