Pietro Pellegri has asked to leave AC Milan in January as he is frustrated over a lack of playing time, according to a report.

Calciomercato.com reports how this was supposed to be the ‘dream’ move that reignited Pellegri’s career after a string of injury problems at Monaco. He was brought in as a sort of luxury third striker for a Milan side who needed an alternative to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud who have a combined age of 75.

Now though, his stay with the Rossoneri is no longer certain. He has amassed less than 90 minutes combined on the field so far, as Pioli did not call upon the 21-year-old in the first part of the season he had to deal with the precarious conditions of Ibrahimovic and Giroud.

The latter is currently sidelined by a muscle problem that will keep him away from the pitch probably until 2022 and with plenty of games between now and the Christmas break the need to manage Ibra’s minutes is huge, and this is where Pellegri’s chance can come.

However as January approaches, the possibility of ending the loan early grows in possibility. There are no shortage of suitors for the Italy international such as Genoa, the club who raised him in their youth sector, but above all Torino who need cover with Andrea Belotti’s new injury expected to keep him out for two months or more.

Pellegri arrived at Milan from Monaco on a paid loan of €600k with an option to buy set at €6m that could become an obligation to buy under certain objectives. His farewell in January is no longer one unlikely scenario, but for now the focus is on impressing in December.
