It has now been one year since Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s second return to AC Milan, and there are certain moves within the club that bear his stamp.
Calciomercato.com speak of Gerry Cardinale’s mission to bring Milan back to the elite of world football, a path has been full of obstacles so far. One of the moves that he made exactly a year ago was to bring Ibrahimovic back as a Senior Advisor, someone who knows how to win.
No one at Milan counts more than the Swede. Zlatan and Zvovimir Boban had a bit of a disagreement regarding his powers a few months ago on Sky, though it is clear he has the final say on every decision, whether strategic or transfer market-related.
He observes, studies, checks and decides on every area. He keeps himself informed daily about Milan Futuro, Milan Femminile and of course the first team coached by Fonseca. He often requests reports on different areas such as marketing and communication, too.
If he makes a decision, even a divisive one, it remains that one because there are no managers who have the strength to change it. The latest example dates back to last Friday, which was the definitive breaking point with the now ex-sporting director Antonio D’Ottavio.

Despite all of that, the notion of the collegiality has not changed, with Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada working closely with Ibra. Daniele Bonera and Jovan Kirovski (who arrived at the Rossoneri thanks to Ibrahimovic) are his key men too.
Zlatan is deeply disappointed by the results in the league so far but has decided to keep Fonseca. The paternity of the choice of the Portuguese coach is more down to Moncada and Furlani, but Ibra had nevertheless given the definitive and final green light.
Kirovski is destined to have more and more power within Milan in the coming months too. It remains to be understood in what role considering the presence of Moncada (whose contract expires in July, but should be renewed) though one certainty exists: 365 days later it is increasingly Ibrahimovic’s Milan.
