AC Milan have experienced success with Yunus Musah as an ‘additional midfielder’ in the 4-2-3-1 formation, most recently against Empoli last night. As such, according to a report, the management is now looking at a midfield signing in January.
After the attacking-minded 4-2-3-1 showed to lack of crucial balance, Paulo Fonseca decided to try Yunus Musah as a right-winger/extra midfielder. It worked against Real Madrid away from home, the 0-0 draw against Juventus and the 3-0 win against Empoli last night.
As reported by Calciomercato.com, Milan now have clear proof that playing with an additional midfielder could be the solution to turn the season around. Depth is lacking in the midfield department, though, so a quality reinforcement could be needed in January.
In addition to Samuele Ricci, who seems more likely for the summer, Milan are keeping an eye on Reda Belahyane (Hellas Verona) and Morten Frendrup (Genoa). The former has an advantage as he’s under 22, meaning he can be added to the squad list freely, while Frendrup is 23 and would require another player to be cut.
The likes of Lucas Gourna-Douath (RB Salzburg), Carney Chukwuemeka (Chelsea), Johnny Cardoso (Real Betis) and Warren Bondo (Monza) are also on the list. Currently, the management is evaluating the situation, assessing the costs of each and which could be allowed to leave in January.
