CM: Milan’s strategy for Daniel Maldini different to Colombo and Pobega – the background | OneFootball

The Milan management decided to take a different path with Daniel Maldini than they did some other young talents, and it has begun to pay off.

As Calciomercato.com reports, Daniel made his first Serie A start for Milan 13 years and 179 days after his father Paolo’s last Serie A goal and 60 years and 22 days after his grandfather Cesare’s last goal.

There were some eyebrows raised when it emerged that the 19-year-old would be given a start against Spezia, but it shows that Stefano Pioli a coach who is not afraid to take risks and will try and put young players in the right position to succeed.

Talents like Lorenzo Colombo and Tommaso Pobega were sent around Italy to gain experience and play with the continuity necessary to return to Milanello as more complete players. However, a different path was chosen for Daniel Maldini, one which involved staying in the senior squad and training alongside players of greater experience in order to try to steal some secrets.

The teenager further understands certain game dynamics and will now have even greater confidence from the goal against Spezia, as well as being an obvious fairytale that has caught the eyes of fans around the world.
