AC Milan need three points against Lecce this evening, otherwise it could well be the end of the road for Sergio Conceicao after just over two months.

As Calciomercato.com write, there is no longer any margin for error: Milan must win at the Stadio Via del Mare to begin climbing the table. Being in ninth place is a disastrous outcome given the high ambitions and expectations for the management.

Conceicao is at risk of losing his job without a win to calm things down, and not only because of the poor results in the league and the Champions League, because of what happened this week with the spokesperson case that shook the environment.

Beyond the usual denials, Thursday was absolutely surreal. Statements from Conceicao’s spokesperson (who later resigned from his role) spread the alleged thoughts of the former Porto coach on everything that is surrounding him at Milan.

What it means is that the same patience shown after Lazio defeat is ‘no longer existent’, as what has happened in recent days has been perceived as damage to the club’s image that has left a bitter taste in the mouth.

So, in the event of a defeat in Lecce – or failure to win due to a bad performance – the situation would risk spiralling out of control and could bring Conceicao’s adventure on the Milan bench to an end. Nothing can be ruled out, in a situation that must remain open to every possible hypothesis.
