AC Milan are expected to boost their defensive ranks in the upcoming summer mercato, and today, a report has claimed that the Rossoneri have enquired about one of their targets. However, they will face challenges from other European sides.

Following this season’s defensive disasters, investment into the defence was to be expected in 2024. Before the January window, there were several suggestions that Milan were looking to strengthen at the back, and they did so by bringing back Matteo Gabbia – who has been a revelation since his return.

This summer, though, the problem still needs addressing, given Pierre Kalulu’s future is unclear and Simon Kjaer’s future potentially lies elsewhere, with the club unsure about offering him a new deal.

As Calciomercato.com reports, the Diavolo are actively surveying the market for opportunities already, and they have contacted Mario Hermoso for details regarding his demands. The Spaniard will be a free agent in the summer because he wants to pursue a new challenge after five years with Atletico Madrid.

He ticks several boxes for the Rossoneri, given he is a left-footed defender, and can provide cover for Theo Hernandez at full-back if needed. Nevertheless, he also ticks several boxes for other sides, which is why Aston Villa and Juventus are also interested in his services.

Currently, the English side are leading the race for him, given they are in ‘advanced talks’ with his agents. Juventus also remain very interested, so Milan must move quickly if they want to secure the player.
