Antonio Conte’s most recent comments have put Napoli on edge regarding the future, and at the same time have alerted AC Milan.

Calciomercato.com recall one sentence from Conte’s press conference today that has caused a stir: “In these 8 months here at Napoli I have understood that many things cannot be done here in Naples.” It was intended to send a message to those above him.

Between the lines of Conte’s statements – not the first this season that have suggested unhappiness – the possibility of a change of scenery shines through. According to him, the situation he found at Napoli does not correspond exactly to what he expected.

So what could Conte’s future be? The obligatory premise is that the coach has a contract with Napoli until June 2027, and therefore in order to be able to free himself early he would have to find an agreement with Aurelio De Laurentiis, which is far from a given.

Two elements could make things easier: winning the Scudetto, which would make a possible farewell sweeter, or Napoli finding a coach of the same lineage as Conte (De Laurentiis, for example, would like Max Allegri).

If he were to leave Napoli, Conte would have a series of paths to consider. In Italy, the options are Juventus and Milan. He would gladly return to Juve but it remains to be seen what the club’s plans are, while the Rossoneri would also please Conte, with their prestige and potential.

Both Juventus and Milan – who are coming off negative seasons – would offer Conte his favourite playing field: reconstruction, a terrain on which in his career he has built his best successes.

In addition to Juventus and Milan, for a broader look at Conte’s future, the possibility of a sabbatical year should not be completely ruled out. A return to the Premier League is more difficult to imagine, given the desire to live close to his family is still predominant.

Finally, the possibility that Conte could remain at Napoli should obviously not be completely ruled out, even if the signals that are arriving, including today’s conference, give the feeling that the percentage of this event is decreasing more and more.
