The AC Milan management all seem to be convinced by the idea of signing Japhet Tanganga from Spurs but some work is needed to strike a deal, a report claims.

According to Calciomercato.com, the Rossoneri have been forced to look for alternative targets to Sven Botman of Lille. Manchester United’s Eric Bailly and PSG’s Abdou Diallo are on their list but there has been a ‘slowdown in negotiations’, which is why the Tanganga idea is beginning to gain some steam.

Directors Ricky Massara and Paolo Maldini like the 22-year-old Tottenham defender a lot and began talks with his agent Roberto De Fanti at the end of December, while yesterday they spoke directly to the London club.

Spurs have opened to the idea of a loan deal, which Milan want, but they would like guarantees on an obligation to buy through the achievement of certain objectives. Tanganga for his part is very attached to Tottenham, having come through their academy, and he is not pushing for an exit but he is also considering different options.

Once Romero returns he knows that he is running the risk of playing less between now and the end of the season. The clubs are in contact, with Spurs director Paratici having asked to postpone the discussion early next week and a negotiable €25m valuation placed on Tanganga.
