Paolo Maldini was one of the main reasons that Yacine Adli remained at AC Milan in the January transfer window rather than going out on loan to one of the many clubs that made an offer, a report claims.

As has been reported by Calciomercato.com, the French midfielder has been something of an enigma at Milan this season.

He excited a lot of fans during pre-season and many thought he could be a breakout star for the Rossoneri following his return from Bordeaux. That is not how it has panned out as Stefano Pioli has hardly used him at all.

He could have left in January on loan to a club like Sampdoria, Cremonese or any of the French clubs that wanted him, but Maldini made it clear to him that he should stay and be patient and work on himself.

Adli is very well integrated into the group socially which is a benefit.
