Eagle-eyed spectators noticed that the entire AC Milan team gathered under the Curva Sud after the defeat to Liverpool last night, barring Rafael Leao who had already gone to the dressing room.

Things were going brilliantly when Christian Pulisic’s excellent shot put Milan a goal up inside three minutes, but Konate and Van Dijk headed in set pieces to give Liverpool a half-time lead, then Szoboszlai made sure of the points in the second half as the game ended 3-1.

As Calciomercato.com write, there were signs that the fans were beginning to turn when the Curva Sud raised a banner before the Venezia game on Saturday which said: ‘Enough excuses, final call’. The 4-0 victory against the Venetians was not enough: a further indication was needed with Liverpool that did not arrive.

The Curva constantly encouraged the team for 92 minutes and then started a protest against the team at full-time, urging them to ‘show their balls’. At the end of the match Leão went straight towards the dressing room while all of his team-mates stayed.

Milan will arrive at Sunday’s derby with a toxic mood surrounding the team. The match against Inter could decide the future of Paulo Fonseca and the ambitions of a team that risks losing touch with the objectives it had set itself at the beginning of the season.
