Rafael Leao had an amazing season as part of AC Milan’s Scudetto winning side and he is attracting the interest of some elite European clubs, a report claims.

Calciomercato.com report that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara want to speed up the negotiations over the renewal of Leao’s contract, especially because the previous basis of agreement at €4.5m net per season for a two-year extension is no longer enough from a salary point of view.

Two factors are influencing the situation at present: the first is the legal case with former club Sporting CP which means he will have to forfeit a chunk of his salary each month until the total amount is repaid (around €20m with interest).

The second is that there are now top teams willing to offer him big money, but Milan’s confidence in reaching an agreement soon with Leao’s agent Jorge Mendes is high. First we have to wait for the sale of the club and then the economic parameters of the operation can be defined.

The Portuguese winger has given his priority to the Rossoneri but Real Madrid and above all PSG are very interested. Leonardo’s heir, Luis Campos, was the one who signed him at Lille from Sporting CP.

However, Maldini and Massara know how to resist temptation because last summer they rejected a €35m offer from Shakhtar Donetsk. There is a €150m release clause in his current deal which is a clear signal to the suitors, but now that deal must be extended.
