Just over a week before the start of the season, Lorenzo Colombo is still in the AC Milan squad and there is a plan in place for his future.

Calciomercato.com write how Milan boss Stefano Pioli has been observing Colombo in preseason. The striker started against Real Madrid after two goals against Lumezzane and also played against Juventus, Barcelona and Monza.

The coach is evaluating his role and it is not entirely excluded that he could remain in the squad at least until January. However, there is no shortage of interest from other clubs who saw the six goals he scored at Lecce last season.

The project that convinces the most at the moment is that of Cagliari, as they are looking for a new striker after the injury of Gianluca Lapadula who will miss the first months of the season. Andrea Petagna of Monza is a name they are working on, but Colombo is top of the list.

At present, Milan consider Colombo the first alternative to Olivier Giroud and Noah Okafor but the latter can also play as a left winger.

Divock Origi was reinstated in the squad after the tour in America but remains on the market awaiting offers deemed convincing, while Milan’s idea is to try to get another striker only in the event Origi and Colombo leave.

At the moment, however, a definitive decision has not yet been made for the 21-year-old Italian, as Milan reflect and evaluate the best path to help him grow.
