AC Milan have always been able to rely on Olivier Giroud at the business end of the season and Stefano Pioli hopes that will continue in the final few weeks of the current campaign.

Calciomercato.com write how Giroud, the man for crucial moments and decisive goals, is Milan’s great hope ahead of the match against Roma in the return leg of the Europa League quarter-finals.

Giroud’s story with the Rossoneri will be remembered for the brace in the derby against Inter, the winner at the Maradona against Napoli, his goal against the same opponent in the Champions League and the brace away against Sassuolo to seal the title.

The Frenchman is looking to avenge some moments too though, such as the missed penalty against Borussia Dortmund or the right-footed shot that hit the crossbar with almost the entire goal free last Thursday against Roma.

Giroud is the first to want to erase a week to forget, which culminated with the huge scoring opportunity wasted yesterday against Sassuolo. Football is strange in that way, because Milan are asking Giroud to improve in a season in which he has 13 goals and eight assists in the league.

Olivier obviously wants to return to deciding the important games, in the nights that remain in the hearts of the fans. He has set his sights on the Olimpico, a place he has scored at multiple times before, and he wants to lift the Europa League trophy in Dublin.

Giroud stated in his post-match interview after the win over Lecce that his heart is red and black regardless of what the future will be. In reality, the French champion already has an agreement with Los Angeles for July and will sign a contract until December 2025.

It is a choice that the Milan fans have already accepted, out of respect for a player who has given so much and and has always honoured the shirt. First, however, there is an objective for Giroud to achieve: to win a trophy and end on the right note.
