Olivier Giroud may be 35 years old but he seems to have had a second wave of youth as he is in as good form as he has ever been at the moment.

Calciomercato.com recall that the Frenchman has already scored 4 goals in 7 league games, equaling his previous best starts with Montpellier (2011-12 season) and Arsenal (2013-14).

Stefano Pioli has asked him to work overtime due to the injuries to Divock Origi and Ante Rebic, but Giroud has responded with goals and top performances, dragging the team and becoming more and more a point of reference.

That is translating to the national team too, because the goal he scored in the Nations League match against Austria on Thursday night means Giroud has become the oldest ever goal scorer in France’s history, at 35 years and 357 days.

Not only that, but it was goal number 49 for his country which means he is two away from matching the all-time leader, Thierry Henry. He wants to convince Didier Deschamps that he deserves a spot in the squad that will go to Qatar for the France, with the next game scheduled for Sunday against Denmark.

Then, it will be time to focus on the Champions League double-header against Chelsea which is crucial in the hopes of reaching the round of 16, plus league games against Empoli and Juventus interspersed. A second star and a trip to Qatar: these are Giroud’s objectives.
