AC Milan are determined not to take the Bologna debacle lying down and they are expected to challenge the decision to postpone the game.

As we wrote about at the time, the postponement of the match at the Stadio Renato dall’Ara on October 26 was a farce for a number of different reasons, mostly centred around the mayor of the city acting above his station.

According to Calciomercato.com, Milan and the Lega Serie A will present an appeal today to the TAR of Emilia Romagna against the decision taken by the mayor which effectively prevented the match from being played, even behind closed doors.

At the beginning of the week leading up to the match a flood emergency emerged in Bologna and the surrounding area. Thus, the city mayor Matteo Lepore imposed the cancellation of the game by signing a document making the stadium unusable.

Lega Serie A, together with the two clubs, tried to quickly find an alternative solution, contemplating playing the match behind closed doors or moving it to other facilities. However, the resistance they encountered and the time constraints led to the decision to postpone the match to a date to be determined.

Today, the definitive decision by both Milan and the Lega to rely on the administrative courts with a very specific motivation, as Corriere della Sera are also reporting this morning.

The club believes that it was not explained why the only solution was to cancel the match, considering that other events in the city took place behind closed doors.

Any compensation for damages will go to charity, it must be added, but above all there is the desire to eliminate ‘a dangerous precedent’ that could lead to similar decisions in the future that would compromise the regularity of the season.
