A selection of Manchester United fans have expressed their disappointment over the performance of Juan Mata during the club’s 0-0 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup third round.
The Spaniard was handed with a rare opportunity to start for the Red Devils and he was able to impress with a 100% distribution success and made a couple of key passes, as per Whoscored.
However, his impact in the final third was limited, barring the one free-kick which nearly found the net and this has frustrated some of the club’s supporters on Twitter.
Twitter Reactions:
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has tried the likes of Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Andreas Pereira in the number 10 role on a regular basis but none of them have been able to impress on a consistent basis.
Pereira has fared better than Lingard and Mata, who have made no goalscoring contributions in the league but the Brazilian has likewise disappointed with his average distribution on the attack.
As a result, there is a genuine concern in the attacking midfield role but it remains to be seen whether the board are willing to back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with the funds to strengthen the position.
United’s draw against Wolves will see a FA Cup third round replay at Old Trafford in January and this will add up to the schedule, considering the club are still competing in the League Cup.
Solskjaer’s side will have another seven matches this month, should they beat Wolves in the replay.
