Late Tuesday night, Dortmund triumphed over CF Monterrey in the Club World Cup round of 16. Final score: 2-1. The German club clinched victory thanks to a brace from their striker, Serhou Guirassy. Speaking to the press after the match, the Guinean reflected on his performance and acknowledged his team’s weaknesses. “It wasn’t easy. They’re a great team. We had a strong first half, but things got much tougher in the second. We showed real character,” he said.

On his individual performance, Guirassy admitted he could have done even better than his two-goal haul to secure a more emphatic win for Borussia Dortmund, even though he was named man of the match. “I should have scored at least three more goals today, but the most important thing is the victory. It was a great experience. I love testing myself against players like Sergio Ramos. He’s truly a great person.” the Guinean added.

Borussia Dortmund will face Real Madrid in the quarter-finals—a rematch of the 2024 UEFA Champions League final. And Guirassy already knows what to expect: “Against Real Madrid, I expect another tough match. We’ll be ready.”
