Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi feels ‘very optimistic’ about signing Tottenham striker Harry Kane, according to reports in France.

Kane’s contract expires next summer and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has reportedly been told by majority shareholder Joe Lewis that the player, a £100million asset, cannot be allowed to leave for nothing.

This has put the shrewd Levy in a difficult situation, as the club’s stance is now public knowledge, which does not bode well for negotiating the sale.

Bayern Munich, PSG, Manchester United and Real Madrid have all been linked with Kane and the German champions have reportedly seen two bids rejected by Spurs.

They are believed to be preparing a third offer with Levy hoping for around £100m. Bayern’s most recent offer was worth €80million (£69m) plus add-ons.

Transfer expert Ben Jacobs reckons Bayern’s third bid will be worth “close to €100m”. There appears to be a reluctance to pay Spurs’ valuation of £100m (€115.8m), doesn’t there?

RMC Sport claim Kane has used PSG’s interest as leverage to ask for more money, which has ‘frustrated’ the Bundesliga giants.

This ‘renegotiating’ tactic means the French club’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi ‘already imagines’ the England captain in his side’s colours and feels ‘very optimistic’ they will win the race ahead of Bayern.

Al-Khelaifi recently met Levy in London in a bid to convince him to sell the 29-year-old, the report states.

Furthermore, Kane’s wife has apparently ‘discretely gathered information’ on Parisien housing. So ‘discretely’ that French website RMC Sport knows about it.

The report claims PSG are in a favourable position and Kane is now ‘in full reflection’ over his future, which is why he has attempted to get more money out of Bayern.

He said: “It’s fair to say I am not relaxed about it! It’s not something you go: ‘Ah, well, you know if it does or doesn’t happen!’

“I mean it’s a very important part of this football club, not just the team, but the football club. He is such a massive figure.

“And as I have said already, whilst my focus isn’t on it on a daily basis because I’ve got other things I need to do, I know that every time I am talking to you guys, or whenever Harry is going to talk, that’s the first question you are going to get. So, you’ve got to deal with it.”
