THE GAME

OneFootball Videos

It's the first time that the two teams face each other. RFC Seraing is Club Brugge's 81th unique opponent in the Belgian first division - not to be confused with another team from Seraing: RFC Sérésien. That club was founded in 1904 and played eight seasons in the first division in the eightees and nineties. The club was dissolved in 1996 due to financial worries and merged with Standard de Liège. Club played sixteen league games against that team, of which it won five of the eight home games (W5 D3).

Club is the only team in the Jupiler Pro League that's still undefeated at home. With 13 points out of a possible 21 Club holds the fifth best home record (3W 4D). Club can't count on Ignace Van der Brempt following his red card in the match against Genk. Éder Balanta has to avoid getting booked or he'll miss the home match against Zulte Waregem.

So far Club Brugge has given the most assists in the Jupiler Pro League (399), which is at least 69 more than the second. Only KAA Gent had more goal attempts (253) than Club this season (251) while our opponent Seraing had the least number of attempts (171) of all teams in the league.

THE OPPONENT

The club was founded in 2014 with the support of French side FC Metz, where Dominique D'Onofrio was the sporting director at the time. The club took over the matricual number of Boussu Dour Borinage and started in Belgium's second division. After the 2016 reform of Belgian football the club continued in the first amateur league. After four seasons RFC Seraing promoted to 1B in 2020. Because of the corona crisis and because some pro clubs were denied a license for the second division, Seraing promoted despite finishing third. Last season Seraing impressed and finished second behind Union. Seraing then beat Waasland-Beveren in the playoff.

For Seraing it's been all or nothing on the road: they have beaten KAS Eupen (1-2) and OH Leuven (1-3) but lost against KV Kortrijk (2-0), Anderlecht (3-0), Antwerp (2-1), KRC Genk (3-0), Union (4-2) and Beerschot (3-0). The Metallo's are in fine form with 7 points out of their last three games. Last weekend STVV was beaten 2-0 at the Stade Du Paray.

The coach at Seraing is Jordi Condom who joined the team this summer. The 52-year-old Spaniard coached KAS Eupen and Roeslare earlier in Belgium. He is the successor of Emilio Ferrera. At the start of the season many pundits had predicted a difficult season for the newcomer, but with six wins and nineteen points the club performs better than expected.

Last Tuesday Seraing was ousted from the Croky Cup on penalties against RSC Anderlecht, after the game had ended in a spectacular 3-3 draw. Seraing saw their double lead - both goals from the spot - disappear before the half-time whistle following a brace by Kouamé. In the second half Lior Refaelov gave the visitors the lead, but Youssef Maziz leveled for Seraing with his second of the evening. Unfortunately for Seraing they were not as cool from the spot in the penalty shootout.

Seraing's top striker is Georges Mikautadze who netted seven goals so far. The Frenchman with Georgian roots is playing his second consecutive season on loan from Metz. Last season he was the second best scorer in the second division with 17 goals. With three goals in the playoffs he had a huge part in the promotion. This season he played one match for FC Metz before joining Seraing on loan again on 30 August. He scored two hat-tricks this season: one against Lokeren-Temse for the cup and against Zulte Waregem in the league. The other loanee from Metz is Youssef Maziz, who is Seraing's assist king with six key passes.

Last summer the club parted ways with Iebe Swers [YR KV Mechelen], Brahim Abaouni (Mar/Fra) [FAR Rabat (Mar)], Abdel El Badaoui (Mar/Esp) [AD Alcorcón (Esp)], Jordan Machado (Por/Fra) [Bastia-Borgo (Fra)], Alessio Cascio [Visé], Yann Godart (Fra) [terug naar FC Metz (Fra)] and Mohamed Moulhi [RFC Liège]. The Bosnian Swiss Danijel Milicevic ended his career and joined KAA Gent as assistant coach. The following players signed a deal with Seraing:

Defenders: Morgan Poaty (Cgo/Fra) [EA Guingamp (Fra)], Dario Del Fabro (Ita/Pol) [on loan from Juventus (Ita)], Marsoni Sambu [SO Colet (Fra)], Elias Spago [academy player], Robin Denuit [Sporting Charleroi], Midfielders: Youssef Maziz (Fra/Mar) [on loan from FC Metz (Fra)] Attackers: Georges Mikautadze (Geo/Fra) [on loan from FC Metz (Fra)], Marius (Cha) [free agent], Giacomeo D’Asaro en Zakaria Silini [both from STVV].

Seraing is the team with the most succesful dribbles (151) of all teams in the Belgian first division. With an average of only 2,3 Belgians in the starting line-up, Seraing has the least amount of countrymen in the top flight.
