Arsenal have had ‘zero contact’ with the club of an attacker that they are keen on taking to the Emirates Stadium, besides an expression of interest.
Having come up short in the Premier League and the Champions League, there is real pressure on Arsenal to bring in a new striker this summer.
They have been linked with a host of possible options, from Viktor Gyokeres to Benjamin Sesko.
A deal to take Sesko from RB Leipzig to Arsenal has been widely mooted, but it appears that if the Gunners are working on it then it is purely with the player’s agent for now.
They have had ‘zero contact’ with Leipzig about Sesko beyond an expression of interest, according to German journalist Guido Schafer.
The German side have yet to receive any contact from the Gunners about a possible deal to take Sesko to the Emirates Stadium, though there remains time for that to change.
Sesko does have a release clause in his Leipzig deal and the Bundesliga club are likely to want it to be met in full if he is to be allowed to leave.
Leipzig have just seen Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen pocket a fee in excess of £100m from selling Florian Wirtz to Liverpool.
That could well encourage the Bundesliga side to feel they can push to gain the highest price possible from parting with Sesko.
Sesko found the back of the net 13 times in 33 Bundesliga outings for Leipzig over the course of the recent season as the side had a campaign to forget and missed out on a European spot.
He also struck four times in eight games in the Champions League league stage, coming up against fellow Arsenal target Gyokeres and helping Leipzig to record a 2-1 win; Gyokeres scored Sporting Lisbon’s goal in the game.
