Club Brugge are still awaiting a response from Olympique de Marseille regarding payment guarantees requested as part of the ongoing negotiations for Joël Ordoñez. The Belgian club are seeking assurances from OM before finalising the Ecuadorian defender’s move, according to a report from Sacha Tavolieri.
Ordoñez, 20, trained as normal with the group on Friday and is said to remain confident that the deal will go through despite the delay. However, he has once again been omitted from the matchday squad for Club Brugge’s Belgian Pro League fixture away to Zulte Waregem on Saturday.
The centre-back, capped at youth level by Ecuador, joined Club Brugge from Independiente del Valle in 2022 and has since made over 40 appearances in all competitions. Progress was being made by Les Olympiens in talks to sign the Ecuadorian defender at the start of August – but there has since been a short impasse. Roberto De Zerbi said that Marseille’s transfer window was far from over during his pre-match press conference attended by Get French Football News ahead of tonight’s season opener at Rennes. Marseille have already sealed the arrivals of Lens defender Facundo Medina, and England U21 international CJ Egan-Riley in the same position, but are actively looking for at least one more central defender before the end of the transfer window.GFFN | George Boxall
