Club Brugge plan to build new stadium using money from Champions League success

Club Brugge CEO Vincent Mannaert has told Het Nieuwsblad that the money gained from qualification in the UEFA Champions League will be set aside to build a new stadium. Mannaert said “We still have ambitions to build a new stadium. And that costs money, more than ever in fact, with the commodity crisis. So we’ll put the proceeds of qualifying aside to ahve it ready for when we can start building”.

Club Brugge currently play their home games at the Jan Breydel stadium, one they share with fellow Brugge based club Cercle Brugge. Built in 1975, the ground has a capacity of just over 29,000. The stadium is named after the leader of the Bruge Matins, which was a violent uprising against Philip the Fair. Jan Breydel was believed to have lived between 1264 and 1328/33.
