Club Brugge are willing to make the most expensive purchase in Pro League history, bidding €15 million for Sander Berge, but Sheffield United are reluctant to sell the midfielder.

It emerged this week that the Belgian club were interested in signing the 24-year-old, who previously played in the country for three years at Genk.

have now stated that they have submitted a bit of that amount plus bonuses.

However, according to the publication, Sheffield United want €25 million, and the English club’s assistant manager has told Yorkshire Live that they want to keep him and expect to do so.

“Yeah. We’d be really disappointed if he’s not [our player by the end of the window]. We are expecting that as we are with a lot of good players in this squad,” he said.

“People can come in at any time for your players and if they match a certain price no matter who you are or where you are clubs have got to look at it. We are trying to build a really successful group here because we want to have a crack this season, we really do.

“And that goes for everyone at the football club. We are no different as staff, we want to keep our best players without a doubt. Everyone knows the quality that Sander possesses. He’s our player and we want to keep him.”

If the move does go through, Berge will become the most expensive signing in Pro League history, and given the money Club Brugge made from selling Charles de Ketelaere, that seems a very real possibility.
