Today, we here at Onefootball present the best XI of Club América: the best players in their position who became benchmarks in the institution.
For this particular group, we took into account the overall greatness of the players: both their impact on the pitch and connection they had with the América supporters during their time at the club.
Without further ado, we present to you Club América’s best-ever XI.
The goalkeeper was part of the best América sides of all-time during the 80’s, in which he was proclaimed champion five times.
His time at América led him to be called up to the Argentine National Team, where he was the third-choice goalkeeper for the 1986 World Cup-winning side.
Son of the mythical Luis “Pichojos” Pérez, Mario came over on loan from Necaxa but performed at his very best during his year at the club, earning most of his Mexico caps during that time.
“El Capitán” Furia appears on our list because, in support of Zelada, he defended the América goal to help earn five titles during the golden age of the club.
During the second leg of the epic 2013 Liga MX Clausura final against rivals Cruz Azul, América were down 2-0 on aggregate very late in the match, playing with just 10 men.
Mosquera would give his side hope in the 88th minute before goalkeeper Moisés Muñoz famously headed home a corner in the final minute of stoppage-time to send the match into extra-time.
América would, of course, win the penalty shootout and be crowned champions of Mexico for the 11th time.
“El Cheché” made América the club of his heart, where he stood out on the right wing with great speed and technique.
With El Nido he won two national titles plus two CONCACAF Champions Cup and a Copa Interamericana championship.
Ortega played at América for his entire career, where he left a legacy with 14 titles. The one-club man played 608 times for the Eagles – the player with the most appearances in the history of the institution.
Four-time trophy winner at the club. Four-time Liga MX MVP. Absolute legend. Nothing more needs to be said.
“El Maestro” became the best foreign midfielder in Mexican soccer. Reinoso is a pillar of Club América, winning six titles as a player and two titles in his first of three stints as a manager.
The midfielder raised eight trophies with the Eagles and won the Mexican BalĂłn de Oro during the 1987-88 season.
América’s top scorer just did not miss. During his career at the club, he won a total of nine trophies and scored nearly 200 times. His 209 Liga MX goals still rank seventh all-time.
After claiming that he would never play with América while with Pumas, he, together with Carlos Reinoso, he turned América into one of the scariest teams in league history.
Christian BenĂtez came over for a then-Liga MX record $10m and completely lived up to his sky-high expectations.
In just 79 games at the club, he would contribute 52 goals and 15 assists, winning three of his four Liga MX Golden Boots with the club and left after leading América to the 2013 Clausura title.
Sadly, just three weeks after leaving América for a Qatari side El-Jaish, he would die unexpectedly from cardiac arrest at age 27.
