Club Amércia slumped to their first defeat to Club Tijuana since 2015, losing 2-0 away from home on Saturday night.
Scorers: López 9′ (PEN), Montecinos 60′
Back in Liga MX action following defeats to Chelsea and Manchester City in two recent friendlies, América fell behind within 10-minutes.
An early penalty, given up within 10 minutes, saw Tijuana take the lead with Lisandro López converting from the spot.
Fernando Ortiz’s team never looked settled as Tijuana remained the better team throughout the night as Joaquín Montecinos, who had been excellent on the night, doubled the hosts’ lead at the hour mark.
América fail to properly clear their lines from a corner, allowing Montecinos to fire a devasting bouncing volley through a crowd of players and past the rooted Ochoa.
