Club América came from behind to win at Necaxa in dramatic fashion as manager Fernando Ortiz’s side climb to the top of the Liga MX table and register a record-setting ninth consecutive victory.
Scorers: Batista 8′; dos Santos 58′, Martínez 74′
Club América fell behind within ten minutes of the encounter as Facundo Batista gave Necaxa the lead in what was otherwise a relatively uneventful first period in which Fernando Ortiz’s side were denied a penalty.
As the pressure mounted on the hosts, Las Águilas found their breakthrough at the hour mark as Giovanni dos Santos drew them level.
Rising high at the back post the 33-year-old was unable to get a clean header but reacted quickest to the loose ball as he fired the ball into the back of the net from close range.
Jonathan Rodríguez thought he’d given the visitors the lead, only for the goal to be disallowed for a handball in the buildup before Roger Martínez fire them in front.
It was once again a cross that did the trick, from the right-hand side this time, as the Colombian forward got in front of his defender to plant a powerful header beyond Luis Malagón.
