América, just as they have been in recent seasons, have been decimated by early injury issues and have not been able to put out their strongest XI.

However, they have won both of their first two games of the season and find themselves atop the Liga MX table, joining Pumas as the only teams to have six points.

Necaxa, meanwhile, are on the bottom of the table, one of just two teams (Chivas) to not score through their first two games.

ESPN reported on Wednesday evening that Giovani dos Santos has not yet trained with the first-team, which will all but rule him out of this weekend’s clash.

Dos Santos has yet to play this season due to what’s being described as muscular overload.

It’s a disappointing setback for the player, who could have used these valuable minutes to find his form against a club who were thrashed by Tigres and fell to a 10-man Juárez side.
