In a sparely populated Azteca Stadium, Club América defeated Monarcas Morelia with goals from Jorge Sånchez and Matheus Uribe.
20-year-old defender Jorge SĂĄnchez made his debut for the azulcrema on Saturday night and made it a night to remember.
AmĂ©ricaâs left-back stepped up to pick off a pass intended for Carlos Fierro before driving forward into space. With no Morelia player closing him down, the Mexico youth international let rip from distance and gave goalkeeper SebastiĂĄn Sosa no chance in the 29th minute.
The home side added their second on the other side of half-time. Matheus Uribe finished excellently from the top of the area after Henry MartĂn set up his team-mate with a well-weighted layoff.
Morelia finally got their goal in the 83rd minute from the head of SebastiĂĄn Vegas. Diego ValdĂ©s crossed from the right wing and AmĂ©ricaâs defence never got sorted. As a result, Guido RodrĂguez tried to mark two opponents and Vegas easily won his header to beat AgustĂn MarchesĂn from close range.
While that would mark the end of Moreliaâs comeback, it wasnât the last action for Chilean left-back Vegas. After scoring, Monarcas received two yellow cards and two reds.
Vegas saw red for denying a goal-scoring opportunity for MartĂn in stoppage time. His countryman Rodrigo Millar also got his marching orders for using inappropriate language with the match official in response to the initial dismissal.
Morelia ended the match with 9 players and left the Azteca with no points. As a result Monarcas are stuck in mid-table with 12 points after nine matches, good enough for 11th place.
América stays near the Liga MX Apertura summit on 17 points, just three points behind league-leaders Cruz Azul.
