Chelsea’s moves to bring in attacking wingers slowed to a crawl in recent weeks as the Blues struggled to sell on some of their own assets, but it looks like one deal is close to being done.
There has been plenty of reporting in all directions on the deal to bring in Alejandro Garnacho for months now, but there looks to have finally been a major breakthrough, according to Sam Wallace of the Daily Telegraph.

He doesn’t get many exclusives, but when he does we tend to listen.
He says clearly that Chelsea and Man U are “close to agreeing terms” with Garnacho in a “deal worth between £35-40m.”
For his part, Garnacho is keen on the move to West London, and the reports all summer have been that he’s turned down other moves to make it clear that Chelsea is his only desire.
This latest report certainly makes a deal seem close, and the fact that Tottenham are now pushing for Xavi Simons does give the impression that the Blues are prioritising this bargain deal over a potentially lavish outlay on the Dutchman.
Some fans won’t like that idea, but getting Garnacho while his value is so depressed by his obvious falling out with the hierarchy at Man U is clearly an opportunity that our sporting directors feel they can’t miss out on. As Wallace writes: “there is a realistic market for Garnacho beyond Chelsea, should it not work out for him in west London,” and that’s especially true if we get him towards the £35m mark.
This one really looks like it will be done before the window closes.
