Clement falls notably behind Beale in Rangers stats | OneFootball

It would be fractionally accurate to say Rangers have made a marginally worse start this season compared with the beginning of last campaign under Michael Beale.

Beale lost 2 of his opening 6 matches but was at 12 points, 4 behind Celtic. 9 goals scored, 2 conceded.

Clement has lost one and drawn one of his opening 6 matches, 5 behind Celtic and Aberdeen, 13 points. 10 goals scored, 4 conceded.

Beale had spent only £4M more than Clement has – £20M to Clement’s £16M.

Beale was under pressure going into the new season, having already been an initially unpopular appointment in the first place – Clement had a lot more goodwill and a great CV behind him.

But the reality is points and position wins prizes, and while it was St Mirren 2 points ahead of us after 6 matches in 2023, it’s now the Dons, 5 points aloof from us.

The further reality is that while fans hounded for the exit of Michael Beale, there’s just not been the same clamour for Clement’s departure.

A resignation of ‘we can’t keep firing managers’ with more than a hint of ‘get behind the team and manager ffs’.

We’d say Clement could field Ronald McDonald up front, aka do what he wants, and most fans would still be right behind him.

And after yet another batsh*t press performance at the weekend, standing in the presser gesturing all over the place while shoving his elbow up at the BBC, while there are those unhappy with the manager’s conduct, if we ran a poll on it it would still be majority in favour of the Belgian.

And that is the general will these days. Fans, for the majority, who just trust in this hopeless manager, despite everything showing he’s no better statistically than Beale, and is in fact worse, and both sounds like him and Pedro. With a hint of Le Guen.

Because he won the League Cup he seems to have received a lot more slack than any other manager in recent times, and it doesn’t really matter how far Rangers fall or how badly the team plays, the Happy Clappers just accept it with full support.

They hounded Beale out for being actually slightly better than this, but Clement gets a curious free pass.

The stats show the reality, that Rangers are in far from a good place right now, and are marginally worse off than under Beale.

But that just doesn’t seem to matter to many fans.
