Philip Clemont and CEO Patrick Stewart already appear to be at loggerheads after the manager claimed he wants several players in January following Stewart’s confirmation that barely more than one could arrive.
Speaking at the weekend Rangers manager admitted he has identified several players he wishes to sign for Rangers but following on from what the CEO said this is clearly a direct contrast to what is possible.
Patrick Stewart specifically said no more than one maybe two players could arrive this winter and for Clement to announce that several are his preference does not seem to support what his CEO had already said.
If the manager and our CEO already disagree on what can happen in January, it does not bode well for a working relationship going forward.
Admittedly Clement’s relationship is mainly with his technical director but the CEO is now the main boss and everybody answers to him as he does to everyone else and for Clement to suggest he wants several players is not harmony with his boss.
Both men have to be giving out the same message – either it is very few players or it could be more than a few players but both men have to be saying the same thing.
It is very likely that Patrick Stewart may feel a little undermined by Clement’s demands and in truth of course we would admit that like Clement we would rather have several players come in.
But we have to also be realistic that we have no money.
If these two men cannot agree on this, what else will they not share?
