Clement announces bids received for Rangers’ Cyriel Dessers

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has confirmed Rangers have received (multiple) bids for on-fire Cyriel Dessers but that none were enough for the club to be persuaded to sell.

Speaking on the topic properly for the first time, Rangers’ boss admitted Dessers is more or less unsellable as things stand, and praised the hitman for handling the rough times at Rangers and thriving this season.

He said:

“We talk with the board about if there are bid comes for a player, if we can let him go or not. We can only let players go if for that amount you can find better. Or you can find two for example, one in the same position and one in another position. Otherwise you work backwards. That’s not the idea. So, clearly for him there hasn’t been a bid that was enough to let him go. And he’s also somebody who loves to stay. He loves to play for Rangers. He loves the shirt and he wants to die for the shirt.”

It is true, Dessers has loved his time at Rangers, and while he did hand in a transfer request late last season amid heavy interest from PAOL, things have changed and he no longer wants to move on.

It’s abundantly clear Dessers is the most on-form striker and arguably player in the country at the moment – he tops the SPL scoring charts, and has an assist as well.

He’s clearly worth his weight at present and he’s won a lot of fans over with his contribution this season.

It’s clicked for the Nigeria international at the right time, having had a much better season last campaign than many wanted to admit, and he’s taken it up a notch this time around.

And Clement admits that selling the man is not a good idea because unless an offer well over £7M comes in, and arguably even beyond that, Rangers can’t just off and get an easy replacement with 5 days of the window to go.

In short, Rangers’ main striker is Cyriel Dessers and he’s justifying that.

And unless some cracking bid that is just too much to reject comes in, he’s not going anywhere.
