Blackburn Rovers are not budging on their £15million asking price for striker Ben Brereton-Diaz, journalist Alan Nixon has reported.

Following his outstanding campaign last season, Rovers retained the services of the 23-year-old in the summer transfer window, despite him entering the final 12 months of his contract.

That means the January transfer window is now the club’s final chance to receive a fee for the Chile international, although that has not changed their stance on the situation.

According to this latest update, Rovers have received enquiries from both home and abroad about the signing of Brereton-Diaz since the window opened, and have stuck to their £15million valuation.

It is thought that Premier League quartet Everton, West Ham, Leeds and Newcastle are all monitoring the situation, but are unwilling to pay the fee that Rovers are demanding.

Meanwhile, given his contract situation, Brereton-Diaz is now able to sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs from abroad, which would allow him to move there for free at the end of this season.

The Verdict

It is no huge surprise that Blackburn are standing firm on their asking price for Brereton-Diaz.

Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side currently sit third in the Championship table, and are in with a chance of promotion back to the Premier League this season.

Securing a return to the top-flight would be much more valuable to the club than any fee they receive for Brereton-Diaz during the January transfer window.

As a result, given how important the striker is to their hopes of promotion, it does make sense as things stand, for them to stand firm over their asking price for him.
