Roma boss Claudio Ranieri has already taken over reins at the club and as the Serie A giants get ready to take on Napoli, the Italian’s agent has spoken about how the move came about.
Ranieri had retired from management after his stint at Cagliari at the end of the previous season but he decided to come out of retirement to manage his former club.
The Italian’s agent Pietro Chiodi has now spoke to Corriere dello Sport, as relayed by TMW, and he revealed that club owners Friedkins care a lot about the Giallorossi and are embebbed into the furniture of the club.
He said: “There was immediate empathy with the Friedkins. We met in a hotel they had indicated, the night before we had stayed in another hotel, in places dear to Claudio, in Chelsea. Dan Friedkin was with his sons Ryan and Corbin. They care a lot about Roma.”
He also revealed as to when the first contact with the club took place, saying: “The Monday after the match lost to Bologna. We met first in Rome with Ghisolfi, with whom we created the conditions to go to London. There was an immediate connection, right from the meeting with the sports director in Rome.
“The two exchanged ideas on how they saw football and how they could work together. An agreement was found immediately with Ghisolfi, later ratified by the lawyer Vitali. I can say that in this negotiation there were no gaps in the Giallorossi management, it is structured like many clubs, there were no hitches in the transitions from one role to another, nothing was missing.”
When asked about what made Ranieri consider coming out of retirement, the agent revealed that only an approach from Roma could have prompted that.
“He said he would only return to the field for Cagliari or Roma or for a national team, but to Roma in particular he would never have said no. In this period he has refused many other offers, abroad and in Italy.”
Roma need a quick change of form this season, as they find themselves 12th in the table. Ranieri has a difficult clash against Napoli to start his new stint at the club.
