Claudio Ranieri restores faith in Mats Hummels amidst rumours that the player is set to be left out of the Roma project due to his age.

Speaking to the press (via TMW) following his appointment as Roma manager, Claudio Ranieri recalled Mats Hummels’ previous exploits and aimed at calling him up to become a regular member of the squad. He said: “I went to watch a few games, I saw the final against Real Madrid and the one against PSG where he scored. But why shouldn’t this boy play? He’s of a certain age too, of course, let’s see. I choose those who make me win”.

These words from the new head coach will surely help the German stalwart to return to form after playing once on the pitch this season. There had rumours linking the 35-year-old to other clubs but Ranieri has indicated that he is set to take a chance with Hummels despite his age and recent dip in form.

Roma has bet on Ranieri now as their third coach of the season after parting ways with Daniele De Rossi and Ivan Juric.
