Roma boss Claudio Ranieri was proud of his team’s performance in a hard-earned 1-0 home victory against fellow European hopefuls Fiorentina. Speaking to DAZN after the game via TMW, Ranieri hailed Roma individuals’ willingness to suffer for the team.
“I always ask the maximum from the players,” the Roma manager said. “I tell them that this summer, when we’re at the beach on vacation, we should have no regrets, no recriminations. We must be happy with what we will have managed to achieve.
“But I want to say that today we played against a very strong team. They’re technically very good, good, good. We wanted to press them high, but we couldn’t because they moved the ball well. We played a great game, full of suffering, and that’s what makes me proudest.
“Because when I ask for a performance, Roma always delivers.”
It was Roma’s third consecutive win in Serie A. As a result, Ranieri’s charges are unbeaten in 19 league games and have drawn level on points with fourth-placed Juventus. With three games to go, Roma seem in a perfect position to secure Champions League qualification for the first time since 2018/19.
However, Atalanta will test their top-four credentials in the next round. In other circumstances, it would be a formidable task for Roma. Yet, their scintillating form can inspire confidence around Ranieri’s camp as the veteran boss aims to ride into the sunset. It would be a fitting end to the remarkable career of an outstanding professional.
