It’s been a while since our last update which means much has changed in the City Xtra Premier League. As you may have noticed and could also deem controversial, the author of this article has, in fact, risen from second to first and leads second placed Reuben Soanes by 56 points. IT’S NOT A FIX! These are the only two managers from the original top 10 remaining at this stage although there is more than enough time for others to knock them off their perch.

There is just 86 points separating the top 10 so all is still very much to play for and the deficit can just overturned in a matter of weeks. The season is only just over halfway so there is still a great chance of breaking into the top 10 and making a title charge in the remaining 17 game weeks. As per, congratulations to all who feature here and good luck to everyone else in the league.

Top Three City Players of the Week

3. Riyad Mahrez (£8.4m) – 5 Points

Whenever Mahrez has featured this season, he has been fantastic and in GW21 he was exactly the same. The Algerian slotted a fabulous ball through to set-up Gabriel Jesus’ second goal against Everton meaning he now sits on 18 goal contributions in just 25 matches this season. Riyad now has 89 points so far this season and has hit double figures four times and I would seriously consider bringing him into your squad. The only factor that would consider your selection of Mahrez would be rotation.

2. Ilkay Gundogan (£5.2m) – 6 Points

Though he has his critics, when Ilkay is deployed by Guardiola as a #6 he is often unplayable. Gundogan often struggles when he is played further up in the midfield but when he has the space to roam he is very effective as he proved once again against the Toffees. The German provided a sumptuous ball, which bypassed five Everton players, for Gabriel Jesus who sent the Champions into the lead. Gundogan’s performance ultimately earned him, and the 1.3% of managers, six points which included one bonus point.

1. Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m) – 13 Points

As you may have guessed, it is Gabriel Jesus who was City’s highest performing FPL player during GW21. It is incredibly assuring that in Sergio Aguero’s absence we have an incredible player for him to compete with and that is exactly what we have in our #9. Jesus scored both of City’s goals including a fine finish at the near post after Mahrez slipped a ball through. He then curled a wonderful effort past Jordan Pickford to wrap up the points for Guardiola’s men which earned him 13 points this week including three bonuses.

Top Three Captaincy Picks for GW22

3. Raheem Sterling (£11.8m) – Aston Villa (A)

England’s and arguably City’s best player has scored 11 goals and has bagged 2 assists in the Premier League this season earning him 110 points. Sterling is highly likely to continue his form against a Villa side that has shipped the third-highest goals (37) in the league alone. Unlike Aguero and Jesus, Sterling is almost guaranteed to start and if Villa continue to defend as poorly as they have during this campaign, he could punish them heavily.

2. Tammy Abraham (£7.8m) – Burnley (H)

Tammy Abraham has proved to be a bargain for many Premier League managers so far this season and has repaid their trust in him by returning 115 points which includes 12 goals and 3 assists. Fantasy Premier League make Abraham Chelsea’s most influential and threatening player with scores of 522.2 and 864 respectively. Chelsea come up against a Burnley side that has been awful recently and have lost their last three Premier League games. Burnley’s defence has not been as solid this season as in recent years and have already conceded 34 goals. Should you own Abraham this week, you should seriously consider passing him the armband this week.

1. Jamie Vardy (£10.1m) – Southampton (H)

If you hadn’t worked out our number one captaincy pick for GW22, do you even play FPL? Of course, it is Jamie Vardy. Vardy is running away with the golden boot this season with 17 goals which is four more than any other Premier League player. In addition, the journeyman striker has three assists in the Premier League which makes him Fantasy Football’s highest scoring player so far this season with 144 points, just three in front of our own Kevin De Bruyne. Leicester are at home to Southampton this week and will be extremely confident in beating the team they beat 9-0 earlier in the season. Southampton have conceded the second highest goals (38) so far this season and we guarantee that if you put the armband on Jamie Vardy this week, you will be having a party.
