Therese Sjogran believes Manchester City’s ambitions and ethos align perfectly with her own.
The former Sweden international midfielder was recently appointed as the Club’s new Director of Football following an illustrious spell as Rosengard’s Sporting Director.
Sjogran officially started the role at the Joie Stadium on 1 December after the conclusion of the 2024 Damallsvenskan season, where she helped her former employers to a fourth league title under her stewardship.
She arrives at City with Gareth Taylor’s side again fighting on four fronts in the form of the Barclays Women’s Super League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup.
And Sjogren says the decision to join the Blues was straightforward due to growth of the Club and women’s football in England.
“The ambition of the Club and also the women’s programme, it feels like it’s done properly,” she explained.
“The goals the club has in the next five years, for me it’s all about winning, and it’s the same for Manchester City. I think it’s a perfect fit. The team is amazing, so for me it was a very easy decision.
“What is happening in England in women’s football is great and I think the development is going so fast compared to other countries and I really feel the league in England is going the right way.
“To be here now, where women’ football is, it’s perfect.”
Having been appointed Director of Football, Sjogran will report to Managing Director Charlotte O’Neill.
She will also work closely with Head Coach Taylor and first team technical and recruitment staff to oversee and assist each department.
And the Swede says the welcoming culture coupled with the relentless desire to win created by those already at the Club was key in her decision to move to England.
She added: “We had a lot of meetings and so on, but for me, when you’re outside you see City as this big company, but when you step into the doors and meet people like Charlotte you feel they speak with their heart about the Club.
“The connection with Charlotte has been good and I feel really welcome and I hope, in the weeks before Christmas, to strengthen the relationship with the staff and the players as well.”
“For me, I’m new here, to be humble and to open to new things. At the same time, to use my skills. I know what I can [do] and I know what I need help with.
“It’s only football. Although it’s Manchester City and a big club, it’s still just football. That was for me a key to accepting the role.”
