City’s Under-19s have progressed to the knockout stage of the UEFA Youth League after placing 11th in the League Phase table.

In our final league game, Ben Wilkinson’s squad draw 1-1 with Juventus with Lakyle Samuel's first half strike earning City a vital point in the final standings.

The new format to the prestigious competition, similar to the UEFA Champions League, saw our young boys in blue play six league games – three home and three away – with the aim to finish in the top 22 of a 36-team league.

And City were able to qualify for the knockouts with 11 points.

Our 2024/25 Youth League campaign began with a tough home defeat to Inter Milan who ran out winners in an end-to-end 4-2 affair. The Italian outfit went on to win all six of their games to finish top of the League Phase.

But a convincing 4-0 win at Slovan Bratislava followed by a 3-0 home triumph over Sparta Prague, courtesy of a Justin Oboavwoduo hat-trick, saw us fly up the league standings.

Sporting CP, who finished second in the league unbeaten, overcame City 2-0 last month which meant points against Feyenoord and Juventus were needed if City we to place in the top 10.

A second half hat-trick from Ryan McAidoo helped City run rampant in our 6-1 win over Feyenoord before our 1-1 draw with Juventus confirmed our place at 11th.

Our attention in the competition now turns to the Round of 32. The draw will take place on 20 December, with the fixture to take place on 11/12 February.
