Raul Asencio has been called up by Carlo Ancelotti for Real Madrid’s game against Osasuna tomorrow night and it could not be more deserved given the level the player displayed from pre-season.
Despite not being called up to the senior side after his impressive pre-season, the player kept his head high and shone with the Castilla side as their leader in defence.
Asencio has only grown from strength to strength in recent years and is now the first team’s backup defender with Aurelien Tchouameni injured. His first-ever senior call-up, needless to say, has arrived late for his quality has been visible for a long time now.
As revealed in a recent update by MARCA, Asencio has been on the radar of several top European clubs in recent times and has had several opportunities to leave the club.
The defender has had not only the highest number but also the best offers to leave Real Madrid’s subsidiary side compared to his peers. In the end, however, no agreement was reached and the player stayed in the Spanish capital.
Of the various parties who were interested, the most notable one was the City Football Group Limited who manage clubs across the globe including Girona in Spain.
They were willing to bet on the player seriously and put him in a long-term Champions League-winning project. H
owever, Real Madrid’s financial demands pushed them and other interested parties away from the player.
So far this season, the young centre-back has made 11 appearances in the Primera Federacion and has played all 90 minutes in every game. In that duration, he averages over 15 defensive actions and 10 ball recoveries per game.
