City Football Group completes £158m acquisition of Brazilian club EC Bahia | OneFootball

City Football Group are now the majority owners of Esporte Clube Bahia after buying 90% of their shares.

Manchester City’s owners now have 13 clubs under their multi-club ownership model.

Africa is the only continent they are yet to register their presence.

According to Globo, CFG paid £158 million to buy the Brazilian top-flight club.

It is their second-largest investment in a club after the £210m spent on Man City in 2008.

98.6% of Bahia club members voted in favour of CFG’s takeover proposal in December.

The club’s elected administration retains the remaining 10% shares.

They will have full rights over their heritage items, including club colours and emblem.

Bahia recently returned to the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A after finishing third in the Serie B last term.

Tricolor also play in the 10-club Campeonato Baiano, Bahia’s state league, and are 50-time champions.

They are the second biggest club in CFG and will now look to establish themselves as a force to reckon with in Brazil and South America.

The Salvador-based club have won the title twice, most recently in 1988.

CFG also own Montevideo City Torque in Uruguay and partner club Bolivar in Bolivia.

In Europe, Premier League leaders Man City, Italian club Palermo, French club Troyes AC, Belgian club Lommel SK and Spanish club Girona are under them.

CFG are also owners of North American and Major League Soccer club New York City FC, while Australian club Melbourne City also belong to them.

Chinese club Sichuan Jiuniu, Indian club Mumbai City and Japanese club Yokohama F Marinos represent them in Asia.

City Football Group are slowly dominating the football world, and all their clubs could soon become powerhouses.
