Barcelona are under pressure to resolve stadium problems before hosting their first La Liga home game of the season.

According to AS, a recent visit by City Council technicians to the Spotify Camp Nou revealed several issues that must be corrected before Monday if the venue is to be approved in time.

With the new stadium still unfinished and awaiting the First Occupancy Permit, the club is in a race against the clock.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, technicians from the City Council, Fire Department, and City Police carried out an inspection of the facilities.

Although clear progress was noted, multiple areas still need improvement before the venue can be deemed fit for official matches.

Johan Cruyff or Montilivi – Barça’s dilemma

Barcelona are scheduled to face Valencia at home on the weekend of September 13–14, but uncertainty remains over the venue.

Montjuic has already been ruled out, leaving two main options: Girona’s Montilivi Stadium or the Johan Cruyff Stadium.

The board’s preference is Johan Cruyff, but the venue poses significant challenges. It only has a capacity of 6,000 seats, falling short of La Liga’s 8,000-seat minimum requirement, and it lacks a VAR system.

To meet the league’s demands, Barça are considering installing temporary stands and adapting VAR technology.

La Liga officials visited the stadium yesterday to evaluate whether these changes can be implemented in time.

Camp Nou’s deficiencies highlighted

Meanwhile, Tuesday’s inspection at Camp Nou identified shortcomings in several areas.

These include signage, emergency exit indicators, the security control room, food service zones, medical and Red Cross facilities, VIP areas, and dressing rooms.

Another issue the council has highlighted is the resolution of the problems caused by rain.

Experts have clarified that these are not structural problems and can be fixed with relatively minor renovations. However, the main obstacle is time.

A decisive meeting has been scheduled for Monday at Barcelona City Hall, led by Deputy Mayor Laia Bonet alongside Fire Department and City Police officials.

The outcome of this meeting will determine whether Barcelona can host Valencia at home or will be forced to look elsewhere.
