Mahamadou Sangaré Joins Manchester City After PSG Exit

City Sign PSG Youth Star Sangaré on Five-Year Deal

Manchester City have made another strategic addition to their long-term project by securing the signature of Mahamadou Sangaré, an 18-year-old striker previously with Paris Saint-Germain. As reported by RMC Sport, “Mahamadou Sangaré (18 years old) has signed a five-year contract – his first professional contract – with the Citizens, after passing his medical. The young striker will join his new team from July 1st.”

Sangaré arrives in Manchester following a standout season in PSG’s youth ranks, having finished as joint top scorer in the UEFA Youth League with eight goals, level with Matviy Ponomarenko (Dynamo Kyiv) and Phillip Verhounig (RB Leipzig). His sharpness in front of goal and positional versatility caught attention across Europe, but it is City who have moved decisively to bring him in.

Rapid Rise of a Modern Attacker

Born in Dionkoulané, Mali, Sangaré’s trajectory has been fast. Despite never featuring for PSG’s first team, his performances at youth level earned him a place in France’s U18 squad for two friendlies against Tunisia and the Netherlands last November.

His profile fits the mould of a modern forward: pace, movement, and adaptability. According to his advisor, former PSG and Liverpool midfielder Mohamed Sissoko, “I see him as a true number 9, but it’s true that he’s also pretty good on the wings.”

Sissoko continued, “It depends on the system the coach implements, but in a 4-4-2, I put him in the two strikers and on one wing in a 4-3-3.”

Threat from the Right

PSG youth coach David Suarez also highlighted Sangaré’s effectiveness cutting in from the right: “He has a preferred zone, which is on the right side of the pitch, to finish with his left foot.”

Suarez added, “He moves to finish with wraparounds and inside shots, like the goals he scored in the Youth League. He has this ability to finish, to be in the box, and even within 5.50m on crosses.”

What makes Sangaré stand out is his speed and directness. Suarez noted, “He is capable of going up to 35-36 km/h… he must be able to change pace and it’s a slider that he must go for.”

This pace, combined with technical polish and positional awareness, gives City a player who could evolve into either a central poacher or a wide threat — depending on how the coaching staff mould him.

Long-Term Investment, Not Immediate First-Team Fix

Sangaré is not expected to feature prominently for the first team in the short term, but rather develop through Manchester City’s academy or potentially via a loan spell. His arrival reflects the City Football Group’s commitment to nurturing global prospects while securing talent ahead of rival clubs.

With Pep Guardiola’s system demanding intelligence, adaptability, and discipline, Sangaré will have a steep learning curve, but all the raw tools are in place. And in a setup known for transforming young attackers into elite professionals, the Frenchman couldn’t have picked a better platform.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

For Manchester City fans, this is exactly the kind of quiet but clever recruitment that has defined the club’s long-term vision. Mahamadou Sangaré might not be a household name now, but his Youth League exploits speak volumes, eight goals in Europe’s toughest youth competition is no small feat.

From City’s perspective, this isn’t just about potential, it’s about principles. Sangaré fits the profile of the dynamic, technically sharp players Guardiola and the City scouting team love to develop. Signing him on a free from PSG, with no professional minutes but plenty of promise, reflects how meticulous and forward-thinking City’s approach has become.

It also highlights the global pull of the club. When a player turns down a first contract in Paris to sign for City, it says something about the belief in the development pathway at the Etihad.

Supporters shouldn’t expect instant fireworks, but the name Sangaré is one that could steadily rise through the ranks. With the right guidance, his speed, positional versatility, and sharp left foot could become major assets in the Premier League or elsewhere within the CFG network.
