Scorers: McGinn 1′; Foden 22′, Rodri 40′

Manchester City fought back from an early deficit to overcome Aston Villa in a game that saw both sides finish with 10 men.

Aston Villa took just 21 seconds to hit front against Man City, with John McGinn rolling an Ollie Watkins pass into the corner.

However, the visitors levelled on 22 minutes when a superb team move ended with Phil Foden calmly tucking in from close range before Rodri nodded in a header after Emi Martínez came for an aerial ball but couldn’t get close.

Both lost players to red cards with John Stones dismissed for a high, late tackle on Jacob Ramsey and Matty Cash following him for an early shower after a foolish challenge on Phil Foden when already booked.

The result leaves City 11 points clear at the top as they close in on the title, with Villa staying 11th.

Tottenham 2-1 Southampton

Scorers: Bale 60′, Son (pen) 89′; Ings 30′

Tottenham came back from behind to beat Southampton 2-1 at the London Stadium.

Goals from Gareth Bale and Heung-min Son cancelled out a first half opener from Danny Ings.

Southampton almost took a shock lead just two minutes in, but Hugo Lloris made a brilliant double save to deny Mohamed Salisu and Che Adams from close range.

But that didn’t kick Spurs into life and it was the visitors who went ahead when Danny Ings headed home James Ward-Prowse’s pinpoint corner.

Tottenham did, however, improve after half time and after some near misses, equalised through Gareth Bale who curled a beautiful strike past Alex McCarthy.

Heung-min Son thought he put the hosts ahead after a brilliant team move but after VAR intervened, Lucas was adjudged to have blocked the view of McCarthy in goal.

Son did have the final say after converting a late penalty when Moussa Djenepo fouled Sergio Reguilón, giving Ryan Mason his first senior win in management.
