Gareth Taylor was pleased with City’s performance in Sunday's Perth International Cup final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite dominating the ball throughout the match and creating the better chances, we went down 1-0 to the French giants after a late penalty converted by Jennifer Echegini.

City’s strong lineup could easily have put the game out of sight at the HBF Park in Perth in front of more than 15,000 fans.

Instead, an excellent performance from PSG goalkeeper Katarzyna Kiedrzynek and a seemingly clear cut penalty turned down in the first half saw Taylor’s team go without a goal.

After almost two weeks of training in Australia, City will now return to Manchester to continue preparation for a 2024/25 campaign that will see us compete on four fronts.

Reflecting on the game against the Coupe de France winners and Champions League semi-finalists, Taylor was pleased with the vast majority of his team’s showing.

“We know we have to do the difficult part, putting the ball in the back of the net but I thought our play was outstanding tonight.

“From the goalkeeper all the way up to the final third we were top class. They’re a very good team but we completely dominated.

“Some of the football we played was top and we can take heart from that.

“We were done by refereeing decisions, we should have had a penalty in the first half. Of course we should for all of the player we had make more of our opportunities but we’ve had one taken from us with that refereeing decision. That’s tough to take.

“Outside of that, I think the girls have been top.

“Considering we’re only two games in it’s incredible, I’ve just said that to the girls imagine if we were four or five games in. I’m excited about the football we played tonight.”
